SPECIAL EVENT RE-CAP:.
The Amateur Radio Association of the Southern Tier would like to thank the 19 volunteers and 92 hams that contacted the special event station on July 19th, 2009 for their
participation in the commemoration of the first glider to ground transmission in 1934. The actual re-enactment of the transmiision was accomplished on the backup frequency of 147.36 due to
battery failure of the 10 meter radio. At the radio, as a third party, was David Eaton, grandson of amateur pilot, Warren Eaton, who completed the first glider to ground transmission via amateur radio.
It was a tremendous success and the Amateur Radio Association would like to thank David Eaton for his third party transmission commemorating the event, the Harris Hill Soaring Corporation for
donating a pilot and glider, the National Soaring Museum for photos, the Chenango County Historical Society for early photos of Warren Eaton, Chemung County for maintaining and supporting'
the amateur facilities on Harris Hill that made this event possible, and the many hams locally and around the world who participated in this event. W2NTK
